Alright everyone, my mom and sister have been providing the updates thus far but this one has been left to me so I apologize for the writing-style change. The neurologist came in today and did her battery of tests as well as an EEG and a CT scan.
Dad is still largely unresponsive; however, he did show a slight improvement in that his corneal response was better and he responded to them touching his cornea which he has not done before. These are minimal improvements and I don’t want to give anyone false hope; however, the neurologist said that any improvement at this stage is out of the ordinary and she felt that we should wait another day to see what happens.
The CT scan didn’t show any damage they would normally associate with hemorrhage or stroke. That means there is nothing acute that could be causing what we are seeing now so the main concern is a hypoxic brain injury. The EEG showed brain activity which would not be expected if he had been hypoxic for very long but it’s not an exact science and may not mean anything at all either. The neurologist said that if it were her dad she’d wait another day. That’s good enough for us. We’re going to wait another day and see what happens.
Dad was pretty clear with us on what he wanted in this scenario and we’re trying very hard to honor his wishes. We’re hoping for the miracle though and if it happens it will really be one. If you’re praying for us and dad, please keep doing so. He’s breaking rules and expectations right now as far as how he’s going. Everyone on here has to know of dad’s chronic tardiness… we’re praying that it’s pervasive down to his soul.
On a final note, your messages to us have been really inspirational and we’ve been reading them all to him at night. We really appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers even though some of them have been really difficult to read out loud. Thank you all so much. You really have no idea how amazing it is to see such an outpouring of support from so many people. We all know how great dad is but to have it confirmed by so many people is completely overwhelming. Thank you all so much. We’ll update you as soon as we know more.
